Still Here

It's hard to believe it's already Tuesday - the last few days have been kind of a blur. Things were going well when we last posted on Sunday, and continued to go well -- Cora breastfed fine on Monday and by Tuesday we were moved out of the Pediatric ICU to a regular floor room. We hadn't been in our new room more than 20 minutes when Cora vomited all over Rob in front of the nurse's station. That sent us to the x-ray room. Good news was that she showed no new blockage on the x-ray but the surgeon ordered an upper GI tract x-ray (that uses barium to create a more detailed series of images moving along the bowel). There is a "baggy" section in the upper small intestine and things were moving through only slowly. Enter our Gastro-Intsetinal (GI) specialist, Dr. Davies, in an almost homeopathic-like sense she suggested we try feeding Cora neocate. A no protein chain formula. Cora has been taking regular feedings of neocate , but not without a fight! Dad tried some and it is awful, like a combo of chalk, sour, sour milk with a metallic finish. She drank a little more each session and spit a little each session to, but all in all we called it progress. She pooped tonight at 10pm! HOORAY!! and it weirdly had no odor. Maybe neocate isn't so bad afterall. We'll keep you posted, we're not out of the woods yet.
